Shakespeare Alive! - our most popular program!
Shakespeare
Alive! is a workshop between students and two Orlando Shakespeare
Theater Artists. In the first half, students are coached through an
interactive plot summary of one of William Shakespeare's plays. They
perform Shakespeare's words and actions in an atmosphere of positive
reinforcement. In the second half of class, 4th -5th grade students are
encouraged to use Shakespeare's words in an activity that encourages
teamwork, public speaking skills and vocal projection. 6th -12th
graders will paraphrase and perform grade-appropriate Shakespeare
scenes.
Available plays include: Othello,
Romeo & Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The
Taming of the Shrew, The Merchant of Venice, Julius Caesar, Antony and
Cleopatra, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Tempest, Much Ado About
Nothing, King Lear, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Measure For Measure, A
Winter's Tale and more!
A perfect companion experience to attending a student matinee!
Shakespeariance - you choose the play!
Two
professional actors visit one classroom for 60-90 minutes a day for 6
days. Students are introduced to the life and times of William
Shakespeare and the plot, characters, and themes of one of his plays.
As the week progresses, students are given a role in the play and,
during rehearsals, are taught to understand the play's language. On the
final day, you may invite parents and peers to be dazzled by your
students' own unique Shakespeare play!
On Stage
This unique pre-show workshop prepares your students to enjoy our world-class productions of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, As You LIke It, and Macbeth.
Arrive at our theater by 9:45am, and in just 30 action-packed minutes,
your students will become familiar with the plot, themes and major
characters of the play. An excellent introduction to Shakespeare!
Imaginations Alive
Take
a magical journey through your own imagination! Using the Reader's
Theater format, we will engage your students' hearts and minds with new
and classic tales. Reader's Theater is a rehearsed performance of a
play without the use of costumes and sets. The Festival's professional
actors hold scripts in their hands and use their bodies to and voices
to portray their characters while a narrator paints the sets with
words. Choose from our selection of plays including The Princess and the Pea, Hansel & Gretel, Rumpelstiltskin, and The Pied Piper, or give us a call and tell us what play you would like us to bring alive in your students' imaginations.
Shake It Out: an Extended Day Program
Extend
your mind and expand your heart with our Extended Day enrichment
program. In this very flexible program, two professional actors visit
your Extended Day students once or twice a week for as many weeks as
you choose. Students are separated into four different classes, K-1,
2-3, 4-5 and 6-8. Each class focuses on harnessing students' natural
after school energy and creativity into a beautiful performance of
either a classic fairy tale or a Shakespeare play.
The Living Newspaper Project
Prepare
your students for the FCAT! Using The New York Times as source
material, your students will write, direct, manage and act in their own
10-minute plays. The plays can then be performed for their peers in
school or scheduled for an exciting evening of theater for their
families and community. Dedicated groups may be invited to perform at
the Festival, side by side with other Florida schools, during the
Harriett Lake Festival of New Plays.
Artist in Residence Program: Create an artist residency based on your needs.
Orlando Shakespeare Theater artists have been directors, dialect coaches,
fight choreographers, and have conducted pre-rehearsal weekends for
teachers embarking on Shakespeare productions all over Central Florida.
