BEGINNING ACTING

SHAKESPEARE’S CHARACTER CLUES

Taught by Artistic Director, Jim Helsinger, star of the upcoming PlayFest premiere Wittenberg and Director of Training, Anne Hering, star of The Glass Menagerie, students will work on Shakespearean speeches with a focus on character development though exploration of punctuation and structure.

SINGING THE STANDARDS

An Approach to Performing the Music of the American Popular Songbook. Taught by nationally known singer, bandleader and star of our own Kiss Me Kate Michael Andrew, this workshop introduces the principals of performing songs in the style of great American Composers like Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, Rogers and Hart, Sammy Kahn, and Johnny Mercer. Students are encouraged to bring in music that they are interested in performing in the American Popular Songbook genre for audition or performance purposes.

BETTER ACTING THROUGH IMPROVISATION

Taught by Philip Nolen, star of The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge, A Tuna Christmas, The Merry Wives of Windsor and Disney’s Comedy Warehouse, the goal of the class is to increase spontaneity and truthfulness in performance, through the use of improvisational techniques.
