Employee Spotlight – Kaylyn Kriaski

A Look Behind the Curtain

Growing up, the only association I had with “theater” was energetic actors in elaborate costumes. Occasionally a vision of a puffy-pantalooned director with a megaphone would swim into my thoughts, but that was it. Not impressed on me were the hundreds of people who make sure that the curtain rises on opening night, and every night after. But after working in Orlando Shakes Marketing Department for the past nine months, I’ve learned that the administration and production staff is comprised of personable, creative, goofy, and insanely talented individuals who are just as important to any production as its actors. Take for instance Kaylyn Kriaski (pronounced like CRAY-ah-skee, FYI), our new Assistant Production Manager.

Kaylyn was game to step out from behind the curtain (she’s also assistant-directing Beauty and the Beast—see what I mean by crazy talented?) to participate in our Employee Spotlight video series. Good-natured Kaylyn took it all in stride, pondering everything from the rare ecstasy that 13 hours of Game of Thrones provides, to her not-entirely-spotless car’s infamy in certain Snapchat circles. Official Kaylyn trivia that didn’t make the final cut of her video interview:

  • If she weren’t at Orlando Shakes, she would be fully committed to her side hustles, which include babysitting and freelancing as a stage manager.
  • Her planner is her life. Without it, she’s not fully convinced she’d survive.
  • She fancies sipping mojitos on a warm summer’s day.

Most sincerely,
Sarah Lambert, Orlando Shakes Marketing Coordinator
