Employee Spotlight – Brandon Yagel
Meet Our Education Coordinator
West Side Story is open, which means Orlando Shakes‘ blog hiatus is finally over (or at least until our next 30+ cast musical theater production)!
Despite the madhouse atmosphere I found myself in on this, the day of my daughter’s wedding opening West Side Story, I found time to interview Brandon Yagel, our new Education Coordinator. Brandon comes to Orlando Shakes after teaching theater in Orange County Public Schools.
Obviously I assumed that Brandon would be too cool for school, having wrangled the most fearsome of all demographics—millennial teenagers. Would he insist on conducting the entire interview via Snapchat? Would he laugh at my pathetic following on Instagram? Would he use hip vocabulary that required the use of UrbanDictionary.com?
Au contraire. Brandon was warm, funny, and completely down to Earth. His thoughtful responses will delight parents (in particular, his insight into the Shakespearean adage “To be or not to be” gave me goosebumps.) If this is the type of man educating America’s youth, we’re in exceptional hands. I dare you not to sign up for Saturday Youth and Teen Education Classes—led by Mr. Yagel—after watching our video interview:
